What To Do If You Suffered A Burn Injury

We know how frustrating and painful it can be to suffer a burn injury. You may have questions about how you can recover from the injury, how to prevent it from happening again, and may wish to consult a burn injury attorney on what legal rights you have as a burns victim.

Here’s a quick guide to help you get your life back on track after suffering a burn injury.

  • If you’ve suffered a burn injury, the best thing to do is call 911. Your skin will most likely be red, swollen, and blistered.
  • If you don’t have access to a phone or if it’s not safe to call 911, get yourself to the emergency room as soon as possible.

Burn injuries are serious and need immediate medical attention. If you’ve suffered a burn injury at work or in any other context, seek treatment immediately. Don’t wait until the next day—make sure that your doctor knows about your injury right away so they can begin treating it right away!

  • Don’t touch the burned area with your hands or anything else!

This is especially important for people who do manual labor for their living—they’re likely going to want to use their hands to try and cool down their skin, but this can make matters worse by increasing circulation in the area and causing more pain than necessary. Instead, apply ice packs (or even wet towels) directly onto the burned area for ten minutes at a time until symptoms subside; then remove them for ten minutes before reapplying them

  • Do not apply anything to your skin (i.e., butter, ice packs). This can slow down the healing process.
  • Remove any clothing that may be stuck to your skin (using clean tweezers or scissors).
  • Cover the burn with a clean sheet or towel, and then wrap it in plastic wrap (but do not use tape). This will help prevent fluid loss from your body through evaporation by keeping air away from your skin while allowing it to breathe.

Bottomline

Burns are a serious injury and can be very dangerous if not given proper care. All burns should be treated immediately by a medical professional since improper treatment could lead to scarring. Hopefully these tips may help soothe the pain until you’ve had a chance to see a doctor and consulted a legal professional on your rights as a victim.
